Does acupuncture hurt?
Acupuncture should not be overtly painful. Upon insertion of the needle you may feel a poke as it enters the dermal layer of tissue ( the most sensitive layer of tissue). The acupuncture point once needled should not to be painful or burning.
Dǎ Qì 打气 is a CM term to describe Qì sensation “arriving” to an acupuncture point. This sensation should not be confused with pain. Although it can feel very strong to some folks.
Use of very thin needles during your session can be an option if you are particularly sensitive to needles and Dǎ Qì or are Qi and Blood Deficient.
